Often referred to as “Dr. G” by his patients, Dr. Gizachew wants to use his skills as an oral surgery dentist in Staten Island to change the lives of his community for the better. Patients can expect him to customize each treatment plan to their needs and never offer a “one-size-fits-all” solution. He has dedicated his career to oral surgery because of his passion and likes how much of a positive impact it can have on people’s lives.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Long before he enrolled in dental school, Dr. G recognized that his community needed hyper-focused oral healthcare for individuals and families living on Staten Island. Since he was just 13 years old, he found it difficult to find the right dentist who could fit his needs, despite visiting multiple dental offices in the area. Eventually, he found himself fascinated with the field of dentistry even though his current interests were unrelated, and he had already been working as a teacher at a local university (he completed research focused on skin cancer.) However, the seed of interest was already planted, and soon enough he decided to enroll in a dental program.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

To obtain his dental degree, Dr. G attended New York University. There, he was also introduced to a new way to practice dentistry. According to his mentor at the time, dental implants were going to be the way of the future, a comment that Dr. G took very seriously. After he graduated, he started dental implant training at a state-of-the-art facility at Rutgers University and completed residencies at Bellevue, Gouverneur, NYU, and Coler-Goldwater hospitals. While he would accept the position as a clinical director at a hospital, allowing him to train others on both implant and cosmetic dentistry, he realized the best way to provide the highest level of care possible was to open his own dental office. He opened his own practice in 2018, and just two years later, he would open three more!

To this day, Dr. G has earned Top Dentist awards in both New Jersey and New York multiple years in a row. He logs nearly 300 hours of continuing education every year and does his best to keep up with a field that is constantly developing and expanding. He understands the importance of always working to improve his professional development through medical journals, trainings, and other avenues. Thanks to his commitment to learning the use of revolutionary technologies, he’s been able to bring a soft tissue diode laser, digital impression system, and much more into our office. He’s also studied BOTOX®, dermal fillers, PDO thread lifts, and TMJ/orofacial pain trigger point injections thanks to his training from the American Academy of Facial Aesthetics.

Dr. G is happily married to his wife, and they have four kids together as well as a dog. While he finds much of his time being taken up by studying dental implants and oral surgery (even when he’s not working), he thoroughly enjoys taking his family out for camping trips when the weather is right.
